A real nice red 5 door for sale on here.

I like it A LOT!  Looks the business.

I still have a bit of research to do though...I searched this forum for buying guides.  All I could find was threads telling people to use the search facility and the Matey Matey guide.  I'll have another search

I don't don't think it makes much difference on handling to be honest. Five doors are heavier, but in my opinion, looking at it from an engineers point of view, safer because they are less prone to consateenering, (spelling :undecided:) in a rear or front impact. When the doors are shut, alot of strength is gained from the doors as well as the added strengthening around the door apertures.

Buy on the condition, not the number of doors.

Happy hunting!

This is the most useful point on here, well in mate

Condition was how I ended up with My 5 door 16v! I always cursed 5 door cars but I ach really quite like the stance they have!

I must have speant about 4 1/2 months looking and looking  until the right one came up, its worth holding on as I was tempted by a oak green one which 'luckily' sold, as it was then readvertised by the new owner on ebay less than a month later and it was sold for around £2k in the first place so something must have been hiding

Or do what a previous owner of my car did.  Buy a 5 door, and smooth off the rear handles.

That way it still looks rubbish, and you lose practicality, sound!!

I'd say if you find a gem of a car then buy it whether it has 3 or 5 doors. Unless you *really* want the three door look and wouldn't be happy with 5, or regularly have rear passengers and 3 doors would be a total pain. Bit of a no brainer really!

3 door every time.

YOU dont have to get out ever, The passenger does.

I just claim my seat doesnt tilt, and people buy it.

Easy one this -

3 door = no children
5 door = children

Simples!

surely 3 door has better handling.

Why?

Rumour has it the 3 door is less rigid, so would be sloppier handling-wise.

I've owned both, it's noticeable.  :nerd:

As someone else has said, buy on condition, not the number of doors.
Unless you are dead set on one or the other of course !

... it's turned into a fashion show for poofters.

I would agree with the five door crew!
I think they rock and can look awesome too, but i have to admit only a 3 door can pull off that aggresive look!

Spot the 5 door

p.s which wiper is pointing the right way!?
