cheers guys

Good advice.  I'd have tools/wood in the back so 5 door is better for me.  Apologies I didn't make my first post clearer lads; I meant is there and difference in the chassis/handling between 3 and 5 doors?

The only real reason I want a golf is for the handling, the ones I drove have been brilliant for a road car.
Cheers

Russ

Buy on the condition, not the number of doors.

surely 3 door has better handling. I can't imagine that it would make that much of a difference though. Improve the handling with renewed bushes all round and a decent suspension kit

Exactly, always buy a mk2 on the condition of the body!

surely 3 door has better handling.

Why?

Rumour has it the 3 door is less rigid, so would be sloppier handling-wise.

I originally wanted a 3 door but came across my oak green 5 door. Price and condition where right so had to have it. I think the 5 doors tend to be better looked after too.

5 doors look just as nice, imho. I don't get what the fuss is about.  :undecided:
