used to have that on my old saloon car.

prob not safe to be standard on a golf hatchback.

Care to explain why ?

Good idea until your tailgate hits the lighting of your garage or other obstacles since it opens up higher than the roof of the car...

Agreed. It looks cool, but only because nobody has it. I also have had this feature on a couple of saloon cars I've owned and, apart from 'showing off' and/or admiring it a couple of times, I never actually used it for real. They say it's for when you have your arms full of shopping, but how often does that happen and anyway your keys are invariably in your pocket, meaning you have to put the shopping down in the first place to get them out and press the button.

A tempting, but ultimately rather pointless mod, IMHO

it can be useful when you're in an airport car park, forgotten where you put your car and you want it to "put its hand up"!!

but seriously the currrent boot release is even more pointless.  you have to lift the handle anyway to open the boot and that act unlocks it at the same time.  hence i use the standard boot release even less!

"UK customers: we pretend to like you, but the reality is that we have never completely forgiven you for the thrashing you gave us in 1944. We continue to sell you our cars, but only insofar as we make money out of you. However, there is no way we are going to make a special RHD version of these LED rear lights for you, so get lost"

 but at least it'll be a proper 'I bought LHD LED taillights and modified them for RHD' mod.

Cherry red rear lights has always been standard for GT model, mentioned in brochure and been on cars since first introduced.  They do look good.
