MK6 GTI - Mods Thread
« on: 16 July 2009, 22:46 »
Might be a worthwhile idea having this thread up, so that when everyone gets their cars or for the people that have their cars already they have a place to keep all of their mods and add-on idea's for the MK6 that they may be buying.

I'll start off with these little babies, a nice quiet classy touch.

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

Lol, I have just bought a pair of these off German eBay. TBH, I was pretty skeptical about the quality before I ordered, but I thought they would make a nice change from the usual kickplates on the door sills and I could always bin them seeing as how cheap they are. They arrived the other day and... wow, they are really good quality. Thick brushed aluminium and they actually look OEM (which is a must for me). The only slight problem is that there is no adhesive tape supplied, so I will probably have to use SuperGlue, or else the tape will be invisible through the lettering. Still worthwhile, though, IMO :)

BluTac sounds good, thanks :) Just wondering: do they scratch your hands while you pump the lever (I'm talking about raising the driver's seat here, in case you missed the start of the conversation! ;))

not as far as im aware, must check to see if they are still even there . Do add a nice subtle touch as you open the front doors though

I know a few others used red sticky tape so the sections between the lettering were then red in true gti fashion

I like very subtle - almost invisible - mods. I would most love to find a bright white/xenon-look replacement for the weird H15 DRL bulb at the front, as the stock bulbs are really yellow. I will probably also get an OEM bootliner and maybe some luxury mats if I can find some nice ones, but that's about it, unless I go for a remap later on.

You can turn the DRL's off but once they are off they cannot be activated again (according to a loval tuner with VAG.COM). Replace the sidelight bulbs with Philips Blue Vision and drive around with those on instead. i think it will be a long time before an aftermarket H15 comes out. Also fit Bluevision for headlamps and fogs, nice look.  As for the remap.........

Yeah I ordered some of those seat inserts from rich351golf on e-bay.  I've seen a post on mark5 forum where someone used red insulating tape under the letters to make them red and double sided tape.

There's a pic of them and they look stunning.
