Clutch Advice: Valeo vs Sachs

After having my mk2 16v working flawlessly since I got it, I believe the clutch has now gone.  The gears are selectable when the engine is off but not when it is running.  After researching on here and speaking to a mechanic, im hoping that 2 new friction plates and a new release bearing should sort the issue.

After getting quotes of £350 + I have finally found somewhere that will do it for a reasonable price.

Question is, do I get it done with a Valeo clutch for £225 or a Sachs one for £250?

yeah, I thought as much. All ordered and sorted, thanks for the help.
£250 seem reasonable?
Took a fair amount of negotiating to get it that low, suppose it is quite a laborious job though.

Yep sachs one on my 16v aswell,they must of gone up in price aswell coz i did mine about 2 years ago and it was no where near the price your talking!  :laugh:

£250 is cheap for a clutch fitted.
The only way you're gonna better that price is to find a garage that will fit the clutch if you supply the part.
Not many garages are prepared to do that for obvious reasons.

Ok! Going to pick the car up a bit later..
They gave me a cover car yesterday because apperently they undid one bolt and the front of the car fell off, which is always great news to hear.
was given a peugeot 106 for the day... unbelieveably poor

Anyways, just had a phone call saying the gears were "sloppy" but the job was complete, im hoping this is how they were before which is fine. More of a concern is the fact that they claim it is idling at 40k...?!

The car was running perfectly before the clutch failed (20k), (I sorted a hunting issue with a new ISV), what could the garage have done whilst fitting a new clutch to cause this?

They said they might charge for an additional 2 hours labour as well....
