protecting the wiring!
« on: 27 August 2004, 10:45 »
I am going to give all my engine bay wires a check this weekend  give a good clean up and tighten, some of the wires have no sleves or protection from the gunge that builds up on them.  What's the way to protect these, I thought of shrink wrap sleving, but is theres something else then let me know!

I don't know the name for it but what about that kind of corrigated plastic tubing with the slit cut in it? You know, the stuff thats around the power steering hoses? I've seen it in engine bays before in different colours.. looks kinda cool :)

yeah I've seen that too. some companies do it in different colours and charge a fortune for it too. all my management loom is covered in the small black stuff aswell as the PAS pipes.

How's this for cheapness ;D ;D ;D
Buy some garden hose, cut it to length for whatever section of wire you need to cover, then wind some black electrical tap around it!!!!! Remember to keep it neat ;D ;D.................or maybe not ;)?

Ahh remember blue peter....... :-X

Sorry guys, funds aren't too great at the mo, have to keep it real.....roll on pay day :D

bit ot but

did you know small bumper cars came with better loom protection in round the engine bay? if you look they are all plastic shrouded

whereas when the big bumper came out they used stuff that resembled ticker tape and after 10 years or so wear just flakes off and disintingrates!!

That stuff would be a bit fiddley :)  Can you get some of thet rubber sleeving like the Speedo cable has to protect it over the engine?

I have silver (foil) heat resistent tape which I had from work, but is still a bit combersome :)

Yep electricians tape would do the job :) Have used it this weekend, also used the cable protector plastic pipes to give more protection to the speedo cable as it passes over the throttle housing! looks good and should last!

Cheers
