If you were trading this???
« on: 26 August 2004, 23:30 »
Hi.
Reluctantly I gotta turn my GTi into a TDi. Its a 2000(w) turbo 1.8 150bhp with 37k on the clock. I know by reading this excellent forum what TDi I'm after but I'm unsure what I can ask for mine?..Should I go the private route??? or will the robber....erm..I mean, dealer turn me over?.ok.In my shoes what would you do?.

try selling privately first.. stealers will only give you the base part-ex price. unfortunately there's so many cars like yours for sale at the moment its a very competetive market.. only the cheapest ones are being sold.
if you're in a hurry, ask the dealer for a part exchange evaluation, say thankyou very much and advertise it on ebay with the reserve set ?500 higher than what the dealer offered, cant lose that way.

Chris.

Thnx for the prompt reply..I reckon I will go to dealers to ask the trade in value,it,s from them and their full service history(and my face is well known,ie window dropped in door etc) so maybe they will be generous(???).The Ebay route is an idea I never thought of and one, once i know the dealer price as you said, well worth considering..Cheers will post the dealer estimate for forum reference..

OK
Just back from a lengthly session with Kevin my dealers salesman.I tested the PD130 and a PD150. Both went as expected from reading other posts.
The 150 has 5000 on the clock,ex demonstrator and has all the trimmings.
I was offered ?7700 on mine against the 150.Its priced at ?16995..
The 130,I dunno just looked so plain..15" wheels,sh!tty tyres, the seats seemed lumpy, maybe cos i,m use to the recaros but it did drive well.
Anyway bored u all enough now. laters.

Thats not a bad price to be honest, although im sure they'd knock a chunk off the asking price of the PD if you weren't part-ex'ing.
I reckon they'd only offer me 6k for mine because its not standard  :-\

I agree on the price. It started at ?7200 but a chat to his boss, they always have a boss, bumped it up to ?7700.I left him with a brief to find me a 130
with extras.Tho the 150 is bugging me now.Maybe after a chat to my boss
she may go for it..Does anyone know the name of the big VW garage heading into Cleethorpes in Humberside?..cheers

You'r right frosticles!.
Rang the guy, told him to forget the 130 and find me the 150 of my dreams.
As for the demo model,my Mrs is taking some working on.Also just browsed thru a well known used car guide. It says mine is worth to a dealer ?8045.Is that against a new model or used?.
cheers.....

I would have thought that would be against a new model. Could try it against a used one. Take the book and show them, See what they say. Good luck with your purchase, Kev.
