Hi
Anyone got any advise for getting open a broken door lock mechanism?  My passenger door won't open from the outside.  Luckily I was in the process of replacing the electric motor for the window so the door card is removed.  Even so the door will not work from the inside.........

If you flick the door lock switch up to the open position and pull the lever, it doesn't open and also moves the door lock lever mechanism down, as if it's trying to lock it again. Also the tension on the door handle has gone so it feels like it's broken somewhere internal.  If you push down the lever that door handle works, it feels well and truely stuck.

I'm at a loss on where to go next, as it feels as if something has jammed, so I don't know if there's a way of opening it, without having to cut the metal around the lock.

Any advise would be welcome.

Cheers

G

If the door card is off, just wind the window up, stick your arm inside the door and flick the lock off and push the lever arm to open the door - should take you all of 5 seconds.

Thanks for the quick post but I'm not sure If if I was clear on my note.

It's not a case of not being able to reach the lock switch or door release mechanism.  The lock feels completely jammed.  when you push down on the door release, it moves the door lock lever down also at the same time, as it if locking the door again.

I think its fundimentally knackered lol!  I've looked at the drivers side and can see how it operates.  What I need to know if there is a way of doing it from the outside I think.....unless anyone here has an idea of what I should be trying.

Cheers
G

The way to open it from the outside is to use the key.

I'd give the door a couple of bumps from the outside in case the door isn't fully shut then try again. You don't have anything caught in the door do you?

The door release mechanism bit will be a bugger to pull down by hand if jammed. Get a long screw driver OR a thick piece wire. Attach the wire to the lock lever and pull it hard. this can only be done with the door card off and access to the lock from the inside.

Tried pushing the door open/close at the same time?

No worries, but future posters should take note, we have had our fair share of scum on this site, so giving them more info about the car's weaknesses is something we should avoid.
