« on: 11 July 2009, 21:12 »
as the title says really.

how much would i be thinking at looking at for a service at a vw dealer.

is it better going to a vw dealer than go to a local garage, its been to vw for every service and i kinda want to keep it that way but depends on cost really

Depends which service mate. How old is the car and how many miles has it done?

Just had my 20k mile service done for £195

Just had my 40k 4 year time and distance including a/c service & refresh and brake fluid change for £391.

They said top cost for the service would be £295 but would depend on what needed doing.  Came in a bit shy of that.

AC service and refresh = £75

Brake fluid = £49

The 40k is the biggie so look at that as the most you would pay.

What is included in the first service - is it just oil and filter change??

How much should I expect to pay at a dealership?

There was a long thread about this and its a controversial issue.

Apparantly VW have now changed the cam belt replacment to 4 years or 60k miles - whichever comes first.  The service book says at 120k miles with no mention to age.  The controversial issue is that this recommendation still seems to stand for the rest of europe but VW UK changed it to the 4 year / 60k miles.

My dealer told me mine didn't need changing till 100k miles...

I'm taking the middle ground and will change it at 5 years (next year) but I would advise 60k if mileage is the driver.  Thats just my opinion.

IMO 4 years is too soon and 100k+ mileage is too long.

5 years 60k is about right but this is just my opinion.

Some dealers were doing a good deal on cam belts with a voucher for irc £300ish... and most will price match a written quote.

^ Yep, 4 year one is not far off £400 :(

I think I paid £370, or there abouts, my memory is poor.
