Milky Paint.

Hi people. the bootlid and rear bumper on my white mk3 have gone milky and have no shine what so ever. havent owned the car long but its getting on my nerves as the rest of the car is great. but i feel as though these few bits let it down alot. also there appears to be finger marks that just wont come off. ive washed it. polished etc etc with persistant swearing but still not much improvement!. does anyone know of any particular products that could restore the paint. any help appreciated.

Sounds like the paint needs a god polish with the right products. What polish have you been using?

There are two options if you are doing it by hand, Autoglym Paint Renovator, or Meguiar's Ultimate Compound. I would personally recommend the Meguiar's as the Autoglym is quite a harsh product and can leave slight scratches.

Either of the products will take off the top layer of "dead" (oxidised) paint and the shine will come back. Put a good layer of wax over the top and your car will be shining for months on end  :cool:

Super Resin Polish will be good once you have got the paintwork in top condition. It's a great polish, it just wasn't designed to do what you need.

Check out the detailing section, Guy has just posted up a write up of a red Polo he has machine polished. It looks terrible to start with but all it is, is oxidised paint like your own. It just shows it better as the red has turned pink.

absolutely

i firmly believe that SRP isn't the cure to end all ills... if it was then every detailer and valeter would be using it for everything

there are better polishes out there... but unfortunately you might need to employ someone with a machine polisher and the right polishes unless you have the spare 14 hours or so...

where are you based?

Sorry top hijack the thread, but I've got a couple of areas of milky paint as well on the rear passenger door. How can I get rid of it?
