Correct size?
« on: 09 July 2009, 09:03 »
225/40R18 92Y FALKEN FK452

Is that deffo the correct size etc for my 18" Pescara's?

Been checking prices etc since one of my front tyres are just under 2mm, and Im doing a 600mile trip in a few weeks. I dont want to replace just one tyre, so Im doing both the fronts

The price for these tyres has dropped at Event Tyres - cheaper then camskill!

£75 each
Includes VAT, Valves, Balancing, Disposal & Mobile Fitting

Read plenty of good reviews about these tyres, and since Im on a bit of a budget at the moment they seem the way to go........

thats the correct size

feedback on this forum is mixed - myself and a few other MK4'ers run them and are by no means impressed!!  i personally find them noisey, lacking grip and they tend to follow the ruts in the road too easily

The MK5'ers who run them have been impressed

not much help to you but food for thought lol  :undecided:

yeh, Ive heard good reviews mostly from the MK5 owners, which is why I thought I'd try em out......

If they are no good I'll know not to use em next time i guess!
Still paying off the Credit Card so on a little bit of a budget! lol

they are by no means a bad tyre just not in the same league as my old Michelin Primacy's (albeit on 16's) IMO

whether or not is due to the significant difference in the chassis's i don't know  :undecided:

Do I need to get extra load tyres???
Someone on the other forum has just said they need to be extra load.

EDIT: Just checked and the FK452's are 92Y, which is extra load

I think a lot of it is down to the difference in chassis, I have them and coming from the dunlop sportmax was like coming from  listening to a gramaphone to an ipod.  It really was that extreme.  For the mk5 I would certainly recommend them.

Interestingly though someone who has had both the falkens and the goodyear assyms said it was a similar experience going from the falkens to the goodyears so I think I might give them a try next.  At the moment its hard to see how the falkens can get much better but I'm always open to new experiences.  That said you do need to get a little bit of warmth nto them for the best results but overall and expecially for the money the Falkens are excellent.

I had the michelin primacy's on mk4 and agree they were excellent (especially at wearing) but I never considered them to be a 'sports' tyre.  If they were better than the supposed sporty falkens they must be horrific on the mk4.  Maybe its the bigger profile that makes the difference?

Cheers guys, ordered em up to be fit on the 20th, since Im off for my long drive up north on the 21st, so that should wear the tyres in nicely for when I come back
