hi had the same problem on my 89 gti couldnt find a switch ne where ended up taking the end off of a 90 spec switch and modifing it to fit a 88 spec non mfa switch but works perfect and cant u tell i done it but it wasnt easy

Well strictly speaking no they don't belong on a mk 2gti because as mentioned they are early 80s stalks. However in the classic vw spirit they used the old stalks from the mk1 until they had to make new ones so close to crossover years will share them with late mk1s. Vw style = raid the parts bin till we require more bits.

At the same time though, my 84 mk2 has different stalks to those shown above, and you can't get much closer to a cross over year than that!
