running problems on my GTi
« on: 08 July 2009, 13:37 »
I've not long owned a MKIV 2.0 GTi but i've been having some running issues with it. At first from cold it would chugg and idle really poorly, i replaced the Air Vacuum Solenoid valve and that has sorted that problem out as the old valve was constantly sucking in air when i beleive its not meant to. I also replaced the 2 pipes connected to it as mine were split and corroded.

Ever since the pipes have been replaced in the past few days the car has IMO got worse?

It starts perfectly but I've noticed I'm losing alot of fuel very quickly, £20 is giving me around 100 miles which lets face it is total garbage, and when i go to accelerate away it'll either not rev up and go and you'll hear the exhaust popping or it'll go but chugg every so often like its mis firing or summat?

I dont know if its the air mass flow meter or cud but doubt it be the altinater?

Any ideas of clues to people who have a clue unlike myself as to what it cud possibly be?

Thanks

Yep, I reckon its the coil packs too. Can you do a scan on VAG Com? That should throw up a code if its not firing properly.

I had the the car scanned by a mate of mine before i replaced the vacuum solanoid valve.

the following codes came up, P0418, P0412, P0443 & P0102

this is bound to change now ive replaced that valve, one was definatly the air mass flow system but that cud now go away as i believe its all linked together?

if it is the coilpacks as you both confidently predict.......is it an expensive repair?

I think coil packs are about £40 each (Probably a bit less). Worth replacing all four at once though. Shouldn't be more than an hours labour charge either (unless ou do it yourself).
