My Stealth-Sub Install :D

Finally got the JL 6.5" sub installed today All components, including the sub box have been fabricated by myself, and have taken about 2 weekends to size up and build.

Neat and tidy, and no real loss of boot space.



JL amp with all it's wiring routed out of sight.



Custom built sub enclosure velcro'd and strapped in.



Boot light replaced? & relocated with a twin Passat item.



Now I just need to find somwhere to put the huge pile of assorted crap that I normaly carry around in the boot - maps, tools, petrol can, blanket... etc...etc...?

yup i made everything myself - took a while to get that cover a perfect fit, but thats what carboard prototyping is for eh i then took the light out of a passat, and whilst in the scrapyard i searched for a bit of carpet that matched the mk3's boot carpet. as there was no mk3's in the scrappy, the closest i could find was in a late renault 5, which thanks to shoddy french build quality, meant that they hadn't stuck any sound deadening to it, and so was a perfect bit of flat carpet to upholster with

in order for it to attach, i simply pop out the light, and then unhook the facia from the post that was left from removing the warning-triangle mount, using my own made custom hooking device of corse

neat install mate, was it tricky to do? I'm thininkg of doing one for a 10" sub and an amp which is a bit too big to fit on the other side like yours, might have to mount it on the seat back, any pointers you can give me?

I just built one for a 10" sub into the boot of my mk2. it's mostly fibreglass, but even after covering the whole thing in dynamat there are still some rattles 

sounds no where near as good as a MDF box  :'(

i started on something very similar for my car the other week.. i've got the right volume for one side sorted.. i reckon another day at it and i'll have one side done.? (have back and front panels made.. just gotta make more "walls".. ) it'll actually look just like what you've got, but with an 8" sub.. and the 'stealth panel' being the actuall front of the box.

i ran into major problems when planning the other side.. have been considering fibreglass.. i've heard you've got to make it thick..

i've been wondering if i should just run on one 8".. see how that goes.. and do something like you have with the amp on the other side.. i'm gonna get one side done.. hook it all up then decide how to go about the other side.

You can beef up the fibreglass by bonding in thin pieces of ply. Use 4mm or 6mm ply and sandwich them between layers of glass/resin.
You should be able to cut the ply to suit any shapes in small pieces, it wont matter if they are not solid/whole pieces.
