a/c service / refresh
« on: 03 July 2009, 19:39 »
Had this done today as well as the 40k service and brake fluid.

Can any one else tell me when I can expect that god awful stink to go away?  If you have been to the imperial war museum in London, you remember the smell in the 'trenches' experience?  Thats what my car stinks of now.  World war one trenches.  Disgusting

If it smells that bad you might need a new cabin filter, if that has been replaced then you can get stuff that can kill the smell.

They did replace the filter and the smell is the disinfectant stuff they pumped through.  It didn't smell of anything before it went it but they did it as part of the air con service.  It just smells rank!

You need to spray some proper solvent based cleaner directly in to the airbox.
The product that works well it a Wurth aircon cleaner, it is applied via the aircon drain hole in the bulkhead.
Works well open the widows for a while after application.

There are some similar aircon "bombs" that tend to just freshen things up for a short while.

The wurth stuff was used when dealer did a complete ac service on ine, I have zero smells from it now, (was pretty bad before) just lovely frosty air

I'll answer my own question for anyone else who has it done.  After 48 hours the smell died down to a nice sweet smell.  It was the ultrasonic treatment thing I had done by VW.  The AC didn't smell before, it was the smell of the disinfectant that stunk.
