Cleaning Fuel System
« on: 23 August 2004, 22:04 »
Hi, unfortunately somebody has taken a disliking to me over the weekend by breaking into my mk2 and stealing my stereo and pouring sugar into the fuel system of the mk1.

Its always a pain posting about the engine as I have a valver, but im pretty sure the K-jet fuel system is the same as a mk1 8v original plant.

I'm just wondering of somebody can give me advice on how to clean out the entire fuel system. It is possible that the fuel has been diluted to bring down the octane level and raise the flash point of the petrol thus rendering the full tank i put in there on thursday (with STP) absolutely useless. If only I had put WD40 in that lock sooner!? :(

I just need to know the following,

how do I remove fuel tank, the level of difficulty, given the fact that i have a sheet of metal and MDF over the top of the interior where the seats used to be, does the tank come out from underneath or through the interior? Common sense tells me it comes from underneath? Also what is the best way to start to clean the system? From the front renewing the filter and cleaning accumulator and checking injector nossle patterns for the possibility that some crap has been allowed through? Ive checked filter and theres minimal crap in there, just the usual bit of sand etc but no corrosion from the filler neck as this was done last yr completely new.

Any help/hints or things to watch out for would be much appreciated in this moment of termoil and despair!

Thanks

Neil
