Creaking steering

I've recently noticed an occasional creaking sound from my steering.
Not loud, only noticeable when parking with a/c and radio off.  Probably present when driving normally but wouldn't be able to hear it over road/engine noise.
However, it is only occasional and only seems to be when the weather is very warm, so chances of me leaving it with the dealer and it actually making the noise are slim to none!

I know there is a known problem with the steering, but has anyone had it intermittently like this and what was the attitude of the dealer if you couldn't demonsttate it to them?

Mine was intermittent but maybe not quite as intermittent as yours.  When I tried to demonstrate the noise to the dealer it didn't do it.  That said they took it in for investigation and ended up replacing the steering rack    I think they are so used to dealing with this they are quite happy to do the work.  Easy money for the stealer, its VW who pays after all!
