Rusty front arches.
« on: 01 July 2009, 10:49 »
I've been to see a mk4 Golf for sale, it seems to be ok except for that the front wheel arches are beginning to bubble.

Its a 2001 silver car, what the best way of sorting this and how much do you reckon it'd cost?

I was thinking of getting two new wings, the costly part I thought would be painting as its silver probably more of it will need to be painted.

I've got two tiny bits on my front wing where i had to take the mudflap off after lowering it, but it's barely noticeable on mine.

This rust is around the top lip of the arch, covering about half of it.

before you go ahead maybe get some quotes for 2 new wings an then a quote for how much it would be to have them sprayed :)

then you could negociate this with the seller to make the cost of buying it cheaper :P

I'd estimated it'd be about a minimum of £600 to replace both wing paint and blend. I was thinking it'd be nice to get the front bumper, grill and bonnet done too to get rid of any stone chips.

I had to put a new bonnet on my E46 a few years back as some numpty sat on it and that was £950!!! For the wings, and spray of your front end I would of thought you would be up near £1000 for that... What colour is it?? Wings alone will be near £150 from VW.

EDIT... Just seen you said Silver. Metalic is always more so £1000 is realistic!

I would be more worried about the fact they are rusty in the first place... !

Could have been a poor repair job, I would look for another.
