Is there anyway with this unit to playback DVD's while the car is moving? Ive heard you can disconnect the wire that senses the movement, but that screws up the satnav feature. Any firmware available to sort this, as my passengers would like to view dvd's if I get this unit.

Because of the canbus control you will need to get a TV free module to enable DVD on the move. There isn't a modified version of the firmware available

Found a unit

To add extra POIs you need to download POI Inspector 3.5

If you add speed cameras as POIs you only get a visual indication, no audio warnings

I use it to add the likes of red light cameras, McDonalds  :embarassed: and Shell petrol stations to give me visual indications on the map

Got POI Inspector 3.5.
How do i download the speed camera locations?

Here's a guide to adding speed camera locations to the DVD

I've been using the RNS510 for a few days now.
I think its the best investment on the car ive made all year!

- I love the 3D navi map! Makes navigation so much easier.
- Love the nice simplistic displays.
- Like the fact that my music is easily accessible via the HDD.
- Touch screen makes it just a pleasure to use and keeps it button free.
- Makes the interior look more cleanier and simplified
- Sound quality, especially the bass, is alot better.

What i hate is the stupid voice of the women on the navi. Shame it cant be changed!!

I like it too, however I have a dedicated micro fiber cloth from all the finger prints left on the screen. Small grumble as it is a magnificent piece of kit. I also like how the zoom in and out knob is easy and quick to use. Just like the climate controls.

On the A3 Audi it's a silly switch which you click for each 0.5 degree change.

Pics:

Install was easy. Didn't need to do any choping of cables or ends. Just unscrewed the square connectors on the cables and they went in fine. Added some tape to make them secure in case they did decide to move. Took 20minutes.

Transferring music is taking forever!!!!!!!!!!!! #

One thing i've noticed is that the fan on the back of the unit seems to stay on all the time. Is this normal?

looks nice .... have you got highline and mfsw to compliment it , do you get a tomtom style view on the sat nav or is it as it is in the picture.
I've noticed it takes longer to copy from DVD so im sticking with the SD card to transfer music to HDD. But even that is slow!

i went into a stealer today in Swindon and they said to buy the unit would cost near 2 Grand, they wouldn't say how much fitting would be.... they said however i would need to change my aerial on my car.

Is there anyway i can find out if my car is compatible with the unit before i order one, and does anyone know anywhere near Swindon where i can get it fitted.... i think the stealer would just rip me off!

Oh one last thing , i currently have the vw ipod connector connected to the back of my current stereo , could i still use this on this unit.   Will the names then come up proper?

VW make a huge markup on the unit.
You can get imports from Europe for less than half the price (£500-900 depending on seller, condition, exchange rate).
It should fit all MK5 golfs, regardless of whether they're GTI or not.
Can't help you about the ipod thing...yet (I'm expecting and fitting the unit this weekend, so will let you know as I have the ipod cable). The name thing I think is more down to the unit and the cable, I don't think either is capable of sending track names unless you have highline fitted.

I dont have highline and what is mfsw?
I do get a tomtom style view (which is 3D) but you can also choose 2D should you wish. In the pic its showing "200yds" scale but it goes right down to 25yds which is more like tomtom.

I took my ipod connector out as i didn't see any point in keeping it as all my music is now on the systems hard drive. NOt sure if the names will come up on the unit with the ipod connection.

mfsw = multi-function steering wheel

It has buttons on the steering wheel which controls certain functions of the RNS510 like volume and music track.

no the names dont come up with ipod, but then you dont need it, as you copy music to hard drive.

you dont need to change your Aeriel, they are lying, just stick a GPS antenna in the dash.
