I think my running issue is here. missed a couple of cheap replacements on ebay... still on the lookout.
Once warmed up it's idling way too fast! The warm up reg changes fuel pressure as the engine heats up. I suspect it's not working and therefore over fuelling once warm. Fook knows where to start but will check the basics at the weekend, power etc.... any other suggestions welcome.

Raised the car back up by 10mm and now it's totally drivable . Before it was scrubbing up front when cornering. which is no good to me as it's a driver not a show pony.
More bad news, lost one of my A Pillar Trim/Wind Deflectors over the weekend.

Money is tighter than ever at the moment so all purchases are on hold for now.. I did recently manage to find a cheap pair of A pillar trims to replace the one that went flying!
I clocked up quite a few miles in the first month, perhaps too many but it was a pleasure to drive it again and I think it was well deserved and I waited long enough. Sadly the shock of being driven again after a long break is starting to show... It's really not running as well as it should, don't think I can do much about it until the warm reg is replaced. The exhaust is blowing like a biatch at the manifold flexi joint which is now fooked and needs some welding skills.
There are still many parts, especially the interior that need to go back in or on this car but other bits and bobs are required before I can do so. I really hope to bring her to volksfest, not sure if any paint progress will be made by then but I'd like to think so.
Caught up with a mate last weekend that I hadn't seen for a few years, he bought my old white MK1 off me before I bought this one but sold it on not long after due to missing his mini's. I used this visit as an excuse to get the old girl out:

Right, well time has not been on my side but I am getting back on the case this weekend, not driven the car for a while now as I don't want to feck it up while it's poorly.... I panicked this morning and thought I only had a week to get the car ready for Volkksfest. luckily I just looked and I still have two weeks to sort some stuff out.
Here's how she's looking at the mo... Amongst the important issues I have to deal with I hope to get rid of some dents and get some paint on the drivers door by show time so at least it's symmetrical. (won't be fully painted)
Was looking for some pics to whack on facebook and stumbled upon this one. My only camping trip in it, a few weeks before the crash in 2004. Damn I miss those headlight washers!... never used them but liked the look of them on this car.

Am on with it now, couple of hours a night after work where possible.
Well I got the car up high enough to sort my fooked exhaust. I have failed you and not taken pics of the issue or what I did. But I said before the sprung join that holds the manifold to the centre section has had it. I had to chop off the two sprung brackets that pull the flanges together, I have tightly wrapped the join in exhaust heat wrap held in place with metal ties, then wrapped over that is some bendy metal, made it into a tube and put exhaust clamps over each end just behind each flange... it seems to be doing an ok job for now.

I have been boll*cked on FB already about how the car is supported above but it's because I left my ramps at my dads who lives in Devon! It wasn't going anywhere, I made super sure and kept a jack on it too just in case.
I think for a longer term fix I am going to try chopping the exhaust flanges which are fooked and try and use something like this??
Next up is sort out the horror I discovered while the car was in the air, I have been leaking a little oil but have been smelling burning grease. The inner drive shaft bolts have been undoing themselves on the O/S!!!
that explains the smell, glad I caught it when I did!
Also need to try setting up the fueling and timing again as I'm still not happy with it but I doubt I ever will be until I get a replacement warm up reg and get some work done to the head.

So.... here's the exhaust to manifold bodge for now. Pic isn't showing the clamps I've since put on but you get the idea.

Inner CV joint is p155ing me off. The bolt you see poking out wont go in any further than pictured. I can force it but gets harder the more it goes in, I've taken it totally out and it looks fine, cant get my eyes in a place to see if there are obstructions. May have to undo and remove them all to find out what's up.
any suggestions??

And now for some pics to show that she's not as pretty as she seems from a distance.
The reason the screen needs to come out, nasty blister under the rubber making the screen leak on to electrics if I allowed it.

More rusty screen shizzle

Nasty dent which has pushed the curve line by the light with it.
image hosting
Annoying dent in the drivers door which has pulled the line in with it.

Where the spat decided to take flight (I have another now though)

Can't wait to get on with simple things like reviving the badges.

I hope to get a few of the above done before I come to VF.

Spent a good while last night playing with the motor to get it running as well as I could.... Jamrock sent me a great "how to fix" link for the WUR which I have since posted in the Mk1 Maintenance section. Going to see if I can put it to use soon and sort mine.
Cannot get the inner CVJ sorted out properly in time for Volks Fest It's all cleaned up and done up very tight but running on 5 bolts instead of 6, the thread for the 6th appears to be shot and needs rethreading!
Did 30 miles of varied driving with no issues. Drives very well actually. I'm having to tolerate very poor running when cold which is giving me pretty good performance when warm. She appears to be cruising well at motorway speeds which is what I want if I'm going to make it on Friday.
Made some adjustments to the exhaust and fitted the replacement windscreen spat/trim. Might try and wack some paint on the drivers door tomorrow if the weathers OK....
Car's going to look rough as fook but if it makes it there and back, I'll be over the moon. Post some pictures tonight.
Oh and a quick thanks to Madone_si for sending me some useful tips regarding the CVJ.

Car made it to Volksfest... I was buzzing all weekend. Just so happy to get her on the road and was over the moon when I made it there after only a little issue. (A bolt for the Alternator snapped, bodged it on route and fixed properly at the show.)
Some pics,
Thanks for these shots boys.

So today I had some time while the missus was out. As soon as that happened it decided to rain. Did what I could, attacked 2 bonnets up to the point of painting..... almost:
Couple of weeks back I made a start. Took off the bonnet the old girls been rocking with, bought it for a tenner ages ago, slapped some paint on it which showed all the dents and scratches and drove the car about.
Time to make good
Underneath it's pretty far gone in places with the old tin worm, eventually I will have to source a mint one when the time comes for a pro respray
Cleaned it up best I could
And since it's the underneath and the metal has had a hard time, it was hammer(ite) time.
Started on the important side, as posted before this went horribly wrong when I got lazy and used some filler primer on some small marks. Reactions and shrinking and swearing! When it comes to bodywork, don't be lazy!
Invested in an Orbital Sander after all the pain, yes the rest of the car has mostly been done by hand until now as the normal sander was sh*t!
Dent free, smooth and waiting for paint.
As the rain got worse I worked on the Quattro bonnet in the shed as I thought it was about time... much nicer to work on. It has a lot of damage though as it was in a barn for years! Need to work on the back corners as they are shot from being sat on them the whole time.
Hope to be wearing it by VW Action although it looks like I'm going to have to use bonnet pins.
Thanks for looking.

Delayed update from August 04, 2011:
Got VW Whitenoise tomorrow (5th August) and haven't finished the bonnet so instead I slapped the totally f**cked spare on and now it looks like this!
