STARTING FOR THE FIRST TIME! NO SPARK!
« on: 29 June 2009, 21:25 »
Hi, so while i wait for a section in the projects thread he's my problem and where i'm at.

Car went from this

To this (not my fault, feckin gypo's, travellers, whatever!)

The car still started and kind of drove up untill the engine was taken out 4 years ago!... car is straight and engine back in.  Guy who fixed it put most of the electrics back in but gave up when he saw the Clifford Concept 50!!! grrrrrrrr, dont blame him, looks a mess!

Heres the breakdown of where i'm at and where i've hit a brick wall!

1.  First attempt, clifford dead, no fuel pump prime, no spark but engine turned over like it was running yesterday

2.  Spent a day on the clifford, (making it work as ripping it out would be a nightware right now)  System is alive, arms/disarms central locking etc.  have now been able to put it in valet mode.  Tried to start, fuel pump primes, injecters peeing out fuel.  No spark.

3.  New Leads, Sparks, Coil, Cap and rotor arm. No spark

4.  Wired coil straight to battery!  Mistake, got very hot and then i realised that the coil goes through the DIS box in the bulkhead (it has been a few years since i got my hands dirty, i forgot!).  This is where i am stuck.

Does anybody know what colour wire is connected via spade at the bottom of the dizzie? What is it, should it be live?

Does anyone Know what the wires are (colours/purpose) on the coil, most of them I think go to the DIS (HALL?). On the negative side I have a solid green and a red and black. on the negative I have 2 solid blacks.  What can I test?

would the clifford be wired into any wires relating to the DIS as this may be the problem, if so, can i get round it.

I'm sorry for the big ass post but I have spent days on this now and past this hurdle I can really get going!

Check out this thread: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=120701.0 might be worth speaking to Ken as he is a clifford agent.

he is in Tamworth tonight I believe and then onto Birmingham tomorrow... I will PM number if you wish

alternatively he has just fitted a clifford to my rivage so the wiring might be very similar... you would be welcome to have nose around mine - you going to BBQ?

Well before i cry for help that costs money i havent got , going to be spending all day on it again tomorrow.  I found some useful info that goes into mega detail on every wire, fuse and relay on the mk1 (series 1 and 2).  I really hope i get this sorted, i will start posting in the projects page with developments tomorrow.  In the mean time, if anybody has any suggestions, I will be sooooooo gratefull!
