What does "Edition38" mean??
« on: 29 June 2009, 14:33 »
Just a query - not big on the VW scene and have heard numerous mentions of E38 & Edition 38. Know it's a forum & a show, but why Edition38? Is it to do with a type of VW prototype or something??

Sorry if I'm a bit thick...  :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

Keeping schtum. Mostly.

It's something to do with VW internal numbering and they guys who set up the show. Can't remeber exactly. I would search on their forum but they have the most rubbish search function of any forum I have ever used!

From an Edition 38 member that I know;

Edition is from the VW practice of naming special models Edition, for example Edition One, Edition Blue or Fire and Ice Edition.

38 is from 1938, the laying of the cornerstone at the Wolfsburg factory. i.e the birth of Volkswagen the company

I always thought it was a higher council of 38 elite scene members who passed their pearls of wisdom in judgement on everything VW.

First Beetles came of the production line in 38, called the KdF wagen (I think) ...whether that's what it refers to as regards Edition 38, I don't know
