44mpg!!

The Mk3 replacement gearbox I had fitted the other month continues to amaze me...........my latest trip to see the better half 210 miles away returned fuel consumption figures of 44MPG . I find that I'm only pulling just over 2500rpm@70mph mind you .......anybody managed better?

what mk3 gearbox did you use? and are you an 8v, or a 16v driver? I desperately need some decent motorway economy for my valver! have you lost any power down low, is it still good for 60 in 2nd etc?

I've running a mk3 16v 'box on my 20v and mine sits at 3000rpm doing 60mph in 5th. could probably be a diesel 'box as a friend aparently has one on his 2.0 8v mk2 and recons he can sit at 70mph at 2500rpm.

it'll do 60 in 2nd though.

3000 at 60 is about what I get now.... I need better than that! at 80mph its doing about 4k 
My runaround cavalier (1.6!) before this barely produced 2k at 80mph, only started revving up to 4k odd when it hit 110/120.

I got 38mpg ONCE. But i was driving slower than an arthritic snail.

Mine's an 8v 91 model......the box i believe came from a 2L mk3.....and yes, it's still good for 60 in 2nd gear . I've lost a little power lower down the gears but have found that holding the gears a little longer can compensate for this

I got a LPG gas conversion on my 2.0 16v and i get 275 miles out of ?18 worth of gas! Beat That!
