1.8 T AUM Lambda problem???
« on: 27 June 2009, 19:38 »
Right car still isnt running 100% occasionaly get a few flat spots and occasionaly cuts out when stopping at traffic lights will happen maybe once every 6 weeks or so. The flat spots are down to this code

17705 - Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve (check D.V.!)
P1297 - 35-00 - just havent found the split hose yet

but was wondering if this code

7545 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Add): System too Rich
        P1137 - 35-00 -  -

could be the pre cat lambda, as already had new VW Maf and quite rare for the Fuel Pressure Regulator to fail it seems

17545/P1137/004407 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Add): System too Rich
Possible Symptoms
Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) active
Possible Causes
Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor faulty   replaced
 Fuel Pressure Regulator faulty       :undecided:
Fuel Injector(s) faulty  unlikely
Oxygen Sensor Control faulty
Oxygen Sensor(s) faulty
Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System faulty

and what is the oxygen sensor control thought that was done by the ecu  :undecided:

so was wondering when other people have had the pre cat lamda fail what symptoms they experienced

sounds like the same sort of problems my mate encountered with his 2.slow, turned out his lambdas were shot which in turn killed his MAF. He had the same codes referring to "too rich" as well

defo worth replacing the one you think is gone, I know they're not cheap at nearly £70 a go but it will cost you more in fuel and other parts etc if you let it go on too long

sounds like lamba sensor mate,  worth getting it done, if left too long will fook up your cat, and that aint cheap to replace.

Thats the werid thing it still does 32-35MPG no problems when lambdas have failed in the past on my cars the fuel drops loads.  also the turbo blew and sent oil through the exhaust before i bought the car so wonder if the oil started the lambda failure  :undecided:

shame the 2.0 lambdas arent the same as i have 2 of them here

Thanks guys for helping me make up my mind think I will splash out on a new one

ebay is a good place for them, there's a guy on there that sells genuine Bosch lambdas for around £70 delivered

I'll find it for you and post it up, front or rear one?

edit - he doesn't have any listed for the 1.8T apart from the ARZ and AGU which is a bit strange, might be worth an e-mail though, the seller is powersparks

very easy job mate, you really want to get hold of a lamba socket, this makes it much easier to undo the damm thing. i had to heat mine up to undo it, but once youve loosned it then its piece of cake.
