hi from bristol
« on: 26 June 2009, 15:44 »
Hi I'm sean, from bristol. and i've recently bought a Standard V reg 3 door mk4 1.8t in navy blue, with the blue recaros. And thought i'd sign up and see what its all about over on the dub side of life. I chopped in my yaris tsport for the golf as the yaris was too small to consider being practical for when we have children at some point.

I know a little about cars but nothing about vw's in the slightest but always admired from afar now i have one!!

So here are the noooob questions as the search seems a bit hit and miss on what comes up i did try though

the car has 125k on it with loads of history and a cambelt last year and a fair bit of work. I'm assured by everyone that vw's are reliable but its got a fair old few miles on it now (and i had a toyota). But would it be daft to get it remapped at these miles? I'm thinking r tec unless someone can reccomend anyone in the southwest? I want it done before the 18th as i'm doing a trackday. And we all know more "powaaa" is the way forward. And that'll have to do until i can grow a couple of spare lungs to sell to get the "proper" engine work done.

Are those ebay special longarm induction kits gonna mess up the sensors if i fit one? i'm aware of the puddle thing but had one on the yaris and it was a vast improvement. (and i'm a chav and love the noise lol) I'm not paying 200 odd quid for a typhoon or carbonario? one. I'll probably heatwrap it anyway.

I'm thinking miltek for the exhaust or maybe piper if they do one?

What am i gonna do about the suspension? its frankly a bit poo compared to the ts. but is much comfier. nice but not what i want. I want the wheels to sit in the arches (when i get them) I'm probably gonna go for 18's. is 9 inch too wide? The wheels are tt fitment? And i park down a lane so coilovers are probably gonna be a bit overkill? is 50mm on springs gonna scrape a lot? i want it low as possible really but still reasonbly practical. i do need to get over speedhumps daily. Any reccomendations on brands? Are strut braces worthwhile on the golf? i think i might have to look into a arb at some point.

Brakes are poo tbh, is pads and discs a worthwhile upgrade until i can afford a 312 conversion? or shall i just get standard parts. (gonna kill the ones on there at a trackday soon )

Any suggestions on a short shift? does the tt one make much of a difference? and where can i source one?

Can someone point me in the direction of some white or replacement dials please?
