My First Real Detail, Need Helpish!!!
« on: 26 June 2009, 10:45 »
Hi all Gonna attept a real detail, heres a list of what ive bought:

Megs Quick Clay Kit
Collinite 476
Autoglym Shampoo
Autoglym Super resin Polish
All cloths and towels etc

So heres the problem, I thik, i have waxed the car and stuff before but with really cheap products, ive read that to start a fresh that you can use fairy liquid to wash it all away

My question is, Is this safe?
Should i wash it with fairy then wash it again with autoglym then wax?

Any help would be awesome.

This has been asked before. My previous answer was:  If you have nothing else, using fairy liquid once will not (as some people seem to think) damage your paint. If possible, you would be better off buying some cheap car shampoo and making a strong mix of that.

Also remember that claying will remove all traces of polish or wax.

yeah... just wash and clay it... remember that whatever the clay doesn't remove (it should remove everything) the SRP is harsh enough to remove the rest

Thanks alot people,

I thought as much what Guy said, i assumed the clay would remove most of the crap if not all.

Also after i wash the car and rinse off do i need to dry it before i clay? Surely the added liquid will help?
Plus does anyone know anywhere or anyone who would rotary polish and cut my car anrounf Boston , Lincs? and any idea how much it would cost?

don't worry about drying your car after you wash it the first time... its only going to become all smeared again when you clay

you'd be looking at about 150 notes upwards for a cut on your paintwork...

I'd agree with a strong solution of normal car shampoo.

Claying and polishing will also help get rid of this kinda stuff.

I use megs all purpose cleaner, at 1:4 solution (very strong) If I need to polish the car.

would suggest a DA polisher and pads - which you could pick up for about that... but polishes would be more.. I did that when I first started
