Why would I need to change the wheel? Do you know of any way I could get this done?

You need a new steering wheel because mfsws have buttons. Otherwise you'd have to drill holes in your steering wheel, find some buttons that fit and do the wiring.

If you want mfsw, you need to get hold of a mfsw and swap it  in place of the stock wheel. Then, provided it's suitable, you'd need to program the car so it could use the butttons.

I would go elsewhere, doesn't sound like your dealer has a clue. Talk to an independant vw specialist see what they say.

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)

Cheers for your help. I just thought the blank plastic bits (where the buttons would go) would be removable and replaced with a component with buttons and wired in from there, but clearly that was too easy for VW to think of? I might just not bother and use the funds to go towards an RNS510

Hi All
Just picked up my Golf Gti Candy white last week. Lovely. Its a 2007 car 3 door DSG and I LOVE IT
I retrofitted 18" Monzas last week and new Private plate.. also bought a MFD2 on ebay and installed it last sat am very easy.
Now Im after cruise control setup.. Seen some on ebay and wonder how tricky it is to self install and if its plug an play or I need a VW tech to do this. Im in Midlands/SW Uk so any help advise appreciated. Thanks. Graham

I've had this done on mine. I have a friend who is a VW tech so has access to a 5052 machine to code it in (can also be done with Vagcom).

£49 for the stalk off ebay. Job done.

Having watched him do it, it's pretty straightforward tbh.

If you want to do it yourself, then you need to buy the Cruise control indicator stalk. Available off ebay for about £50.

To fit it, you need to remove the steering wheel and the steering column surround to gain access to where the stalk is mounted. Swap the stalks over and put it all back together.

You will then need to code it in i.e. tell the car's ECU that it's fitted. This can be done by your dealer (they will charge you) or using a VAGCOM if you know anyone with one. I watched my mate do it in less than an hour (although he is a VW tech) and it's pretty straightforward if you know how it all comes apart.

If you plan to try it yourself, then search google for a pictorial guide on how to do it, there are some available on the forums. Alternatively, get someone off here to do it for you and give them some beer money.

Note: In the cruise control box that VW will sell you, they also provide a black wire which may, in some cases, need to be fitted in order for the cruise control to work. In my car (an '06 GTI) the wire was already fitted at the factory. If you need to fit the wire then this will be more tricky as you need to route it through the bulkhead. Not sure if you will need to do this or not.

Some dealers will fit cruise for £150 all in. That's not a bad price to be honest.
