Cruise Control fitted by VW Dealers?
« on: 23 June 2009, 17:15 »
Hi,

Just got a quote from VW for cruise control. They said £160 all inclusive for parts and install. I was quite surprised, I've been on Ebay and for the same service most want £175+ depending on whether or not you have Multi Function Computer.

Makes a change from the usual rip off prices they quote you.

Just thought it'd be worth mentioning if any of you out there were looking to get this done. Plus, you get a 3 year warranty through VW.

Cheers.

Ryan

I think I was quoted £200 at the time. Got it done by another member (vRStu) for around £120.

If they don't have your car yet, you can still cancel...

I've had this done on mine. I have a friend who is a VW tech so has access to a 5052 machine to code it in (can also be done with Vagcom).

£49 for the stalk off ebay. Job done.

Having watched him do it, it's pretty straightforward tbh.

3 Year warranty?.. thought it was only a year!
I want this done, but my dealer wasn't too sure about Retrofit
What else do they need beside the stalk, any kind of throttle valve/stepper motor?

The engine is already 'fly by wire' ie the accelerator is an electrical potentiometer rather than physically opening a flap so its all computer controlled anyway.  This makes retrofitting as easy as jaydub says.

hahaha, that's if everything goes right when they fit it - I got VW stealer to retrofit cruise as part of the deal when I bought it.

When I took it in to have it done (they didn't get the parts til after I picked it up) I ended up being gti-less for 2 days and driving around in a sh!t Polo - they had to take steering wheel off to fit it, and it turns out that they managed to accidental pull out another connector further along the loom but they didn't find that til they had swapped around al-sorts of ecus etc!

Glad I had the stealer do it - cos the connector may have been lose and could have happened to me or anyone else I got to do it.
