Stupid Misleading Car Adverts
« on: 22 June 2009, 19:41 »
Looking for my next car and ive spend hours today browsing every corner of the web, local papers bargin pages autotraders freeads etc

Ive called about 8 today, only 1 of those had 100% correct details-

2 were Cat D's altho claimed wernt in advert and first questioned.
2001 listed, when i phone its actually a 1998  (numberplate blanked off on photos)
A garage asking £2399 in the advert, the photo showed the golf with a sale sign in it saying £2199, when i called i got "oh its a mistake its ment to be £2699"
Another saying "full mot" when called it was 3months
Another which said 100k on clock, i call to find out its actually 160k

One my favourites-
The women on the phone said its got 66k on clock, so i asked "has it had a cambelt change and any service history as its about due for cambelt"

women replys- "Yes of course its had a new cambelt change recently but no history"

me- "did you get the cambelt changed yourself?"

women-" no the previous owner had it done"

me- "any reciept to prove it or any idea when it was changed?"

women- "No she told me she thinks her husband had it done once when they brought it, so its definitly had one"

 Getting frustrating and taking the pee now. Put honest adverts, it will help sell the car.
Can't beat an honest seller, cant find one nowdays either!

A mk4 as my daily runabout, 1.4, 1.6,tdi. I know everyone says go for the TDi but you try finding one under 2k in decent condition and not moon trip miles!
Not that fussed about speed either, so im looking mainly at 1.6 SE's (not gona buy an E as i want the mod cons) so basically.

Looking for mk4 with-
Under 100k milage
Under £2k Price
Service history
Tax'd and Mot'd
Pref higher then a T reg

TBH with the budget you cant be too picky...even 200k miles for a TDi is nothing aslong as its been serviced correctly.

I know how you feel, been to see some bangers. The owners don't like getting told its a heap, they shouldn't advertise it as a mint condition then.

When I part ex-d my old Mk3, I took a look at the dealer's website the next week and found it listed for sale for about £500 more than he paid me for it (I don't mind that so much) and showing 90k miles, even though it had 99k when I sold it to him.

And when I was looking for Mk3 GTIs, I found the one I eventually got listed as having a full MOT when it only had 9months and as I later found out f**ked CAT converter (which would have failed the MOT).

Got to love the "Trade" garages.

There are some dodgy places about.

Guessing you had a look on Piston Heads Bill?

The worst one I saw was a BMW with a new mot which was fine apart from the sills being stuffed full of newspaper and underseal and a fibreglassed rear diff mount.
