Camshaft recommendations
« on: 22 June 2009, 19:01 »
Right people, gonna buy a camshaft for my 8v gti.
Had a look at bahn brenner motorsport, all good and cheap until I find out postage!  costs more to post than the actual price of a camshaft (£130ish to post).
So been looking round but cant find websites that sell cams  :undecided:

Had a look at Kent, and piper, and couldn't find price for Kent cam, but piper was about £175.

newman cam is £145 for a 276, so pretty decent value. Opinions please?

ok, found the kent GS23H cam. 276 degrees and all round very good from reviews.

Anyone can assure me I wont need to modify anything to make it fit? I don't want to start fitting it and finding out it doesn't clear enough or that i need to invest in a vernier pulley.

Just use the OEM pulley and OEM timing yeah?

I would spend the extra for a vernier pulley worth it, mate has on on his  :lipsrsealed: VTS :lipsrsealed: and loves it. But yea I don't see why you cant use the std pulleys.

guys, need the advice pretty quickly. Will I be able to fit the 276 cam without having to modify anything and will I be able to use the standard pulley with the standard factory timing?

I'm pretty sure you can just wang it in but you won't get the best out of it without the vernier pulley. Might as well save and get both as changing the pulley later will be more expensive than doing both at the same time.

Cause you'll have to remove half the stuff you remove to fit the camshaft again when fitting the pulley.
