to rebuild or not????
« on: 20 June 2009, 18:36 »
my mate has a 99 110 derv, and to cut a long story short the turbo went!  it was pluming out smoke/oil and it even had the odd drip from the rear zorst, so a new one went on and all pipes/cooler cleaned out. on test drive the revs stuck on a few times to the redline (they did stick a few times with the knackerd turbo) so test driving along the engine dies and cuts out, he tries to start it but its locked up tight. so he gets it up and whips of the sump only to find bits of conrod in the sump  there is one busted rod the others are bent for sure(there wavy, not strait).

would it be wise to rebuild with new rods, pistons, rings, shells etc
or just aswell get a replacement engine??
what would the cost ''roughly'' be for both,

build or buy or burn? that is the question

the cost in buying the engine internals will be more expensive than getting a recon lump, you could always convert it to a 2.0 8v as i have a pare mk4 engine and g/box

You can buy used engines for £500-600 (PD130/150) this would be alot cheaper than rebuilding an engine and cheaper on labour
