New Tyre Time

Afternoon All

Just a quick one, just had the car serviced and been flagged up that all 4 tyres are on 3mm so will need replacing sooner rather than later.

Ideally want to put Conti sport contact 2's back on it or upgrade to the contact 3's.

Essenetially just wondering if anyone knows of any good deals about at the moment. I'm north west based. I know kwik fit were doing some good prices on them a while ago but now all they seem to offer is Dunlop's or Bridgestones.

Any tips?

My Conti 3's were worse than the Conti 2's I had on for grip!

I would say go for either Goodyear F1 assyms or Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's. I have Sessanta's on the 18" wheels and F1's on the 19'd and there isn't much between them.

My view on tyre size 235/35/19 only 

At the moment I am running Kumho Ecsta KU31 which is a cheap tyre to the normal stuff most of us run.

My findings along with my views on the other tyre I have run at this size (Toyo Proxy T1R'S)

Kumho tyre beats Toyo hands down.
The Kumho beats the Toyo in all areas exept wet weather TRACTION.
The Kumho is better in dry weather GRIP and TRACTION.
The Kumho is better in wet weather GRIP but not TRACTION.

For the money the Kumho is a very good tyre.  May be not the best as good as the mega money tyre,  but are you bothered that you can go around a roundabout 1/2 second faster in the wet because you have spent an extra £100-£150 pounds a corner more for your tyre.

I've had Kumho's on and they are a decent tyre, but wear fast and haven't got the same levels of grip as the Sessanta's or F1's The lateral grip on the Kumho's was also an issue for me, especially in the wet!

I have only pushed them on the KW v3's though. May make a difference, but you would have to be stupid on public roads to lose it on the Kumho's in the dry (or wet).  We are talking 3 figures in long bends here.  (on a track)

Oooooh no, much lower speeds in the wet. I'd push round mediun corners at 60mph and feel them giving up in the wet! Ultracs are better for lateral grip in the wet without a doubt!

I've just had 4 new Vredesteins fitted to my GTi. Ordered from mytyres.co.uk and fitted by IDS in Halifax. They are super pointy, and have masses of grip. Like them a lot!
