FAN KEEPS GOING CRAZY?!

Hey can anyone help me please. my fan kepps coming on at random times, it never used to do this and i know its not because of the heat because it does it when the engine is cold too. it especially goes crazy wen i turn my AC on?! i dont know why. 2 of my friends with similar age GTIs say this is not normal. and once again the vw dealers i took it to to get checked said no faults came up so they assume nothing is wrong with it, but i know there is. HELP!!

hate it when dealers only go on fault codes. Maybe a dodgy fan switch on the rad. Also check your cooloant levels too.

The fans should come on when you select AC.  This is to create an air flow over the AC radiator (condenser) which is essential especially when there is no natural air displacement (vehicle at rest or slow).
