Hi could do with some advice
« on: 17 June 2009, 20:39 »
I know this is a bit of an odd question but i have jus got a ford galaxy 2.8 i have been told that it is basically the same enging as a vr6 and as im already a member of this site i thought i would ask hear first. The problem is when i got it home it looks like the wire has been taken off the temp gage and it was overheating it must of been very hot as as soon as i stopped it pushed all the water out. my questions are. i know that this must be the head gasket but are these engines prone to this. is there two heads on these engines or just one and can i get the head/heads skimmed or will they be knackered. thanks in advance  Aaron

Not sure if its the same as a vr6, but if it is theres only one head covering a very narrow V. Not prone to head gaskets that im aware of.

It is the VR6 engine fitted in the galaxy, so only one cylinder head.
Early vr6's do suffer from head gasket problems.

Maybe best to find a spare engine or a head.

Maybe best to find a spare engine or a head.

before doing this do a leak down test to see if the gasket is indeed the actual problem

To do the job correctly your going to need to remove the engine, you cannot get the head off with it in the car, I would pick up a spare head, drop your engine out then whilst doing head and gasket you could also replace the timing chains.

Can you not get the head out with the engine in situ?
