K&N Air Filter - good idea for a Mk5 Golf GTI??
« on: 15 June 2009, 12:13 »

Hiya all,

I've just stuck one into my Fuel Injection Motorbike - the difference was incredible!
Can I do the same with my FI Golf FTI???

I've always been brainwashed into believing it will messes up the MAF Sensor etc.....

Just been to the K&N Web site. They only do for 2006-2008 Golf GTIs now..... will it fit a 2005 Mk5????

Hope you can advise

Cheers
Martin

I've just fitted one of these (last night in fact). There seems to be some debate about whether the oil that the filter is impregnated with can affect the MAF. Too early for me to say but I had a K&N on my last 4 cars and never had a problem.

Performance has improved after fitting to my MK5 GTI, especially at the top end which pulls harder.

I bought off ebay for £45 delivered. I thought it fitted MK5 GTI from 2004 onwards but might be wrong.

Engine cover is an absolute b*stard to get off though - there are some guides on how to do it if you search on google.

If you are worried about the MAF then you can get green cotton filters which don't have oil on them.

I've only had issues with my 2007 GTI when it comes to starting up, it sometimes takes a few turns more than before, but driving performance (MPG, rev range ect.) have all seen improvement as per the K&N website, so I would go ahead and do it.

If in doubt, re-map it.
