an audi alloy , not sure what year/model/pcd etc. any help appreciated . its 17"

Cannot find a picture but they were fitted to A8's as an option.

Cant really justify spending an extra £140 odds.
Adaptors add an extra inch to width if im right ? That would make width of 8 inches, would the arches cover tyre tread as per mot requirements ?

Not as easy as that, you need to know the offset of the Audi wheels if they are say et40 and you used 20mm adaptors then your final offset will be around et20 which as long as you don't go silly with the lowering you should be ok.
