one of my mates recently brought a mk 3 8v p reg black gti! and he said he was going to get new pads and discs! i said dont get the ate power discs because they eat brake pads of any make! i said they the vr6 pad are ?40 so i would have thought his were the same my dics on the 8v have lasted 9 month! as i have some which have got cracks in them and have eaten 4 sets of pads since christmas!
i have just done mine! with ferrodo! >:(

anyway he goes to buy some as his were grinding, and jervis etka said special order! so he went halfords and got some ferrodo on fitting them they were too small! i think he took them back!
he said they look like the vr6 pads but his were slightly bigger!
so he ended up going ''circus side'' and paying.............
get ready..................?60 for some pagid!

halfords book said that his were the same pads as the vr6 as i looked when i was getting mine! vr6 without pad sensor were the same number as his only with the pad sensor was the part number different but its going to be!

i dont know why his pads are bigger then the vr6!

he's going to run into big trouble if his eats them like mine! and i thought ?40 for the vr6 were bad!

ever likely people didnt buy them as much, my escort pads were ? 6 for cheap sh** but christ did they stop you!
and the ferrari 308 and mondial used the same pads!

does his have the 98+ brakes on his 8v mk 3 as they were the only other pads halfords listed!
its meant to be a family car! for fcuks sake its a 2.0 8v!

the ferrodo brake shop is only 4 mile up the road i told him try there as they are ferrodo! so if ferrodo make them they will have them,

my pads on the mk 2 8v are only ?15 from jervis for pagid and textar or ate! ferrodo at halfords are 17.99!

anyone got and opinions on this subject!!!!!

I sort of lost track of what you are saying. :-\

My friend recently replaced MK3 8v front discs and pads using vw parts.  Discs were ?40 each and pads ?40 for the set.

I'm not looking forward to new pads on the vr6, i hear they don't tend to last long either!  Luckily vw replaced all the pads before i bought my car. :D

which was nice.........

A VR6 isn't a way of life, it's just a car.

well what i'm saying is that now you mention that your mate replaced his for ?40 i'm saying my mates been ripped right off!

and circus side is the only place around here which sells them....... unless he orders them from halfords motor world etc but its alot of hassel just to replace the pads!

that will teach him NOT to heavy brake! ;D
