Coilover query
« on: 13 June 2009, 18:24 »
Hey all, am looking for some advice and inspiration, I have got a 3 door 8 Valver, shiny shiny red  and Im looking for some coilovers and wheels for her.

First question is does anybody know of a good set of coilovers? Im looking to get this all sorted for Bugjam so I dont wanna get it wrong lol. The Mk4 boys I roll with all have FK Highsports and love em, I just wondered if anyone had these on their Mk2 or could recommend any? £400 would be my max really, which is roughly Highsport price, but if anyone can recommend any cheaper ones that are decent thats all good :)

Wheel wise I wanna get em just right and am not looking to spend a fortune, and Ive taken a shine to these bad boys

http://www.rimstyle.com/products/detail/?category=wheel_tyre_packages;type=ronal_r10_turbo_mb;manufacturer=ronal;model=392;id=ROR10MB1570704100372813010

Ronal R10s, anyone got an opinion on em?

Really appreciate advice y'all.

Oh and I might be selling a 16v Scorpion twin pipe exhaust, back box and mid section if anyone is interested. PM if so.

Do you want handling, or to be low, like some sort of scuttling insect?

For £400 you could buy some good quality short struts and springs.

Alternatively, you could get some fairly nasty coilovers that will corrode and probably have cruddy damping.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

haha scutting insect! you make me laugh

he is right though you will get a better ride with strut spring combo but i much prefer the adjustabilty of the coilovers and mine is on budget ones and i wouldnt say there harsh definetly not unbearable, plus if you do things properly by greasing the coilovers and moving adjusters every now and then they will not corrode.

i bought Weitec coilovers ...

love them and they are awsome , fairly cheap and good quality

the olny thing i dont like and wish i had got is the rears and on a circlip and you move the clip up and down for height and this needs them stripping

i am on the lowest setting and it is okish ????? but i would like more adjustability really
still think they are better than the carp cheapo ones on Ebay

Got the FK highsports on my car and they are utter sh!te in my opinion. Spring rates are far too hard and theres bugger all rebound damping. Only thing that made them slightly better was putting the softer rear springs on the front but you still get nodding dog syndrome and any bumpy roads mean you have to really go carefully.

Hmmm lots to think about then, maybe Dans recommendation over the FKs then? Not really looked into strut spring combo, whats the advantage there and what kinda price? Lol im shallow, its all about low and loud

I might be heading to a show in Spalding tommorw but probably not in mine, having some issues with it at the minute, joint on passenger side is making some rare noises, can hear me coming lol.

Go get a set of Hotturding coilovers then and bounce your way down the road.
