fuel gauge

hi, ive got a problem with my fuel gauge reading fullwhen the ignition is on and there is hardly any in it, my question is how hard is it to remove the sender and how do you go about it, many thanks 4 your help

AFAIK there are 2 senders, one in the dash clocks and one in the tank or something but i cant remember of hand...also from what i remember, the dash one can go and is usually the one that goes

from what i understand it can be a little bit tricky as the pump / sender unit can be a pig to remove without the proper tool. it can be done with water pump pliers but apparently the locating tabs cab break off quite easily then forcing you to have to drop the tank to remove it for replacement.

if you know anyone else with a mk3 and if they are nice enough then i would just swap the clock cluster just to rule out a faulty gauge

I have problems with my gauge now and again.... it suddenly goes quite low, but then look again later and its back to where it was.. I'm like ehhh? seems to start doing this around the Middle mark of the gauge....

Mine was the same, was told by VW it is normal.

Yep, mine does that occasionally. it's a f*ucker for knowing if you've allowed yourself enough petrol for along trip sometimes.

Ahh well glad its ok, just one more thing, Do the mk3 gti 8v's have a petrol light on them? I've never let it go too far in the red to check for a light, but i cant seem to see one...
