You need to wind the caliper piston in, I normally use a tool and wind it all back. Easy.

They do feel solid, use something to lever it apart. Caliper wind back tool is to wind the piston back into the caliper on the rear brakes.

ok managed to get it off, with the looks of it these brakes havent been changed in a while!

Yet another stupid question?, this brake pad seems stuck solid as it is now, should it just slide out?

lots of wear on other side of pad tut tut!

big flat screwdriver and prise it out....just be carefull on the disc face (unless your swapping them too? then give it some)
the pad should now just fall out but that looks quite old!

if you can knock the pad out with a small hammer or like boney said pry it off with a screwdriver, or tap it out using the screw driver as a chisel (NOT hitting the disk ofcourse lol)

use water pump pliers to get the pistons back in...just wrap the caliper with the pliers and GENTLY squeeze the piston back in...link to what a water pump plier is below...make sure you take off the cap for the brake fluid resevior too
