air filter - 98?

Hi, I recently bought a mk3 R-reg '98. All the induction kits or air filters etc I look at on ebay say mk3, but mk1 91-97.. will these still fit dya think or do I just need to look harder? Cheers

They stopped production of the MK3s in 1997. Yours must be a late registered Mk3

Aw nice one cheers. Just a another question, well 2 really. 1) whats this i hear about knwoing if i have hitachi maf or bosch maf? Also, all induction kits, etc say 'direct replacement part' so sounds easy to fit.. is it? :p

1. yours is hitachi maf (round) 2. very easy if you have whats known as a BRAIN! Unlike me :evil:

yep hitachi maf and don't fit an induction kit unless your giving it a really good cold air feed...drill the airbox and fit a panel filter instead  :wink:

I just drilled my airbox and completly removed the 90degree (original air intake angle) off it and ran a Cold Air Feed Directly into the box with some gauze to stop birds gettin in lol...

It sounds alot nicer and it seems to be more responsive (on my 8v gti)

cold air feed ran from the grill in the bumper on the drivers side. if u wanted to know. if not then i've said it anyway lol

Id be up for a bit of this drilling and panel filtering tbh. Sounds cheap and better :) anyone know of a post which has maybe diagrams on how to do it, etc. Im not stupid, but not a hardcore car person either. Dont wanna mess it up :p
