1st Service....
« on: 11 June 2009, 11:03 »
How much am I looking at for my first service, and wheres the best place to get it done without voiding my warranty??

My car has done around 6500 miles, and it says I need to get a service in 60 odd days (Im assuming its on T&D servicing).

Im considering getting changed onto longlife servicing, since I mainly do longer journeys (around 45 miles a day, mostly motorway/A roads)........

My first service came on at over 9k and I went to my local dealer to get it done. If you can I would see if you can get that servicing package where you pay £200 for the first three services/60k miles whichever comes first. I got that deal when I bought the car in June 08. Not sure if you can buy it retrospectively. Ask your local dealer.

I think the warranty states that it needs to be serviced at a dealer.

Oh, I thought it had to be serviced, but original VW parts used, to keep the warranty?
I will probably get it done at a dealer anyway TBH.

I think you have to take out the servicing package when you buy the car new? Dont think I would be able to take it out now that the car is 10 months old......

How much did you pay for your first service, and was it using LL oil?

Didn't pay anything. The £200 covers the first three services. They didn't put LL oil in as that is not part of the T&C's of the service plan. However I wanted them to then it would only have cost me £33 or something.

I think the warranty states that it needs to be serviced at a dealer.

Not true.  You can have it serviced anywhere as long as they stick to the manufacturers regime and use genuine parts.  Even that may not be necessary as long as they are quality parts to OEM specs but I woulnd't risk it...

Is there any way of checking if they put the LL oil in??
What if you pay extra for it but they dont bother??
Or is it down to trust?

Time and distance will count down the milage on the display every time you start up from 2000 miles down.  Not sure if it counts down days as well.

It doesnt display only from 2000 miles. Well mine doesnt.

Mine briefly displays the miles remaining, or the days remaining, until the next service when you start the car. It displays for a few seconds then goes.

It always has done this. At the mo its doing it even though it states I need a service in 61 days or 6600 miles. A few months ago it stated 105 days, and so on.

As I said, its always given me this info every time i start the car, for a few seconds - so its not only limited to giving this info when the service date is closer.....
