need some advice on a few things....HELP.....

Ive got a mk2 16v gti that has a few problems

1) I think the front gearbox mount has snapped, when driving i change gear and the front end seems to drop away...

my question is how easy is this to replace and how much will it cost?

2) i asked this question before but i cant find the answer on here... its another gearbox question...the car has just had a second hand gearbox put in but you cant put it in 5th...the gear nob seems to sit right over to the right like you would be changing up to 5th but if you push up its 3rd!!! what the hell is going on there?

check the linkage faq in the mk2 maintenance + info, that'll take you through replacing the linkages. also explains how to replace the gearbox mount half way down, as once the linkage is out it makes it easier to get to the box mount!  also common for the front molunt to go, if the box mount is bad then I'd say the front one is too!
