VDO gauges, urgent
« on: 10 July 2003, 12:31 »

About to wire up the additional VDO gauges in my MK1 this afternoon, quick question, should the gauges be connected to constant or switched power feed, was gonna tap power from stereo connections but then had a thought if its constant feed it is going to kill the battery.

Haven't done it yet. I've been too busy getting it through its MOT and ironing out all the little problems that I have discovered since getting it on the road.
Before I can even start, I need to relocate the electric window switches.........I'm still undecided as to where I'm going to put them.

You could set them in the door pulls, ive seen it done, just need a scalpal, some impact adhesive and some patience!!!!

Yeah, AdamB has suggested the same to me too, sounds like a good idea.
Trouble is the interior is totally original and unspoilt and I'm reluctant to start cutting holes...........I might see if I can get a spare set of pull handles. At least then if I change my mind I haven't ruined the original ones.

Thats  a god idea to get some spares. If you want to keep it untouched why not route them through to where the original winders are and sink the switches into a blanking plug to cover the hole left by the winders, then you havent choped anything original about???

Where there is a will there is a way!

Funny you should say that. I was sat in the Golf this afternoon and decided that would be the best place to put them with minimal damage. Its just a blanking plug in there at the moment.
Going to search the scrappies over the next couple of weeks and see if I can get some better switches, maybe from an Audi. If I happen to come across the Golf door pulls in the process then I'll give that a go first.
