Carbon Fibre Grilles, are these legit/any good?
« on: 09 June 2009, 21:37 »
Hi guys, sorry if this should be in the cosmetic section, but it gets so many more lok here off guys who visit that area of the forum as well.
Do any of the guys here who have/ or who know about hte carbon fibre grilles rate this one
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290323087724&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:GB:1123
can you see any problems with it, or this one:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-MK5-CARBON-FIBER-GRILL-GRILLE-BODYKIT-BODY_W0QQitemZ220414556955QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item3351bb3b1b&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1683%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

The seller of the first one says it fits over the original one, and that it can be kept on with adhesive,
Now personally I don't like the idea of a £150 piece being stuck on to the front of my car,
is this a cheap copy of one, and also can you point me towards a good one to make my car look that bit classier.
Thanks
Al

Al,

OSIR are a reputable company and supply quality parts. There's nothing wrong in fitting a CF mask over the existing VW parts. It still looks the dogs and you can remove it later when you sell the car and claw back a few quid.

A pukka CF replacement item could cost an arm and a leg.

You gets what you pay for with CF.

PM Hurdy or Joe to get their opinion

thanks Cass,
Have looked the one up now, (I actually won it on e bay!) and they seem legit, I just was unaware that they go over the originals.
See, I have had MK3 for 2 years, so am still learning about the 5's.

which did you win? the OSIR ones are never a perfect fit, the cheaper ones on ebay usually tend to fit alot better and are still 100% carbon fiber.

I had my carbon grille put on the other day but all the work was done by the garage as it was in for front end repairs (needed a new grille anyway so would be rude not to get a carbon one lol)

Im afraid Im not really going to be much help.

You know what might look really good is to replace all the unpainted bumpy exterior plastic bits from a standard GTi with carbon fiber! Now if only someone made all the parts necessary.
