I know this has been covered till the cows come home...but i'm thinking of chipping my 1.8T with a Revo chip, my problem is this:

Lucky for me my golf is a company car and altho i treat it as my own in 3 years time it will be time for a new one, this said I would still like to chip it so that Mondeo/Vectra and certain BMW drivers know there place in the motorway pecking order!

but for ?500 pounds is it really worth it for 3 years?

then yes you can have the free trial at any revo dealer. must be a very early 03 car then as most that recent are 180's. whereabouts are you ? maybe i can recommend somewhere.

What does you company say about it? Surely you must declare it to them, for insurance purposes? I would begrudge spending it on a car I didn't own. Instead I would start saving the pennies for a sunny day car, that you can love and cherish, and keep wrapped in cotton wool, until those nice summer evenings come around again.

I got the car on the day the 03 reg came out, so its one of the first 03 reg's out there I live in Basingstoke which is in Hampshire,,,as for declaring it to my company I thought i'd keep it as my little secret as they have no way of finding out, from what i have read the chip cannot be detected by VW, so i'm ok there.  inmy experience of VW dealerships they seem to have trouble fitting new windscreen wipers let alone detecting a chip upgrade!!

its undetectable by vw dealerships particular software, meaning it wont flag up any error codes or show anything out of the ordinary. if they (or an insurance assessor) are actually looking for evidence of ecu tinkering then they will find it, not that they will ever need to. ofcourse when you take it in for a service the monkey that drives it should easily tell the difference (really does make it a different car) but thats where the serial port switches come in handy?

dont know any of the revo guys that far south personally, closest to you looks like either southampton or swindon

I've found a place called Fontain in buckinghamshire which isant a million miles from me,,,,the serial port switches, how exactly do they work?

will i be looking at more to have that option fitted?

just a little black box that you plug into the OBD port in the dash when you want to make a change, range from ?150 - ?250 +VAT with different features. anything from a basic on/off switch, to a complete boost and timing controller.
