For the love of god. Your obviously having some sort of mental block listening to what I say, so here is some other facts for you.....

"The term upgrade refers to the replacement of a product with a newer version of that same product"

Your going from a mk5 to a mk6, regardless of model, its a newer revision of the mk5.

I thought most were actually trying to wind me up, or bait a reaction, but after reading again, your just basically stupid. I'll have to take that into consideration for any future replies.

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

This is what im not understanding. Its seems to be the MkV crew trying to beat down on the Mk6 Constently.
The GTI is not a 3.2V6 so if you were looking to compare your thingy size with the New GTI your in the wrong thread.
Ide rather own the Mk6 GTI to R32. My opinion. If ide wanted an R32 ide of bought 1 over my MkV but I prefered the Turbo charged Engine. More easily tuned. Alot less hassle. Less Fuel Consumption.

And yes the new GTI corners better then the MkV. I drive my GTI within an Inch of its life and mine down these country roads. Right on the Limit of where you know the car can handle. I hit the same corners at the same speed and I cudda gone much faster as much as 10mph Ide dare to say the breaks felt more responsive.

lol, I could list the R32's (MANY) faults but im not going to. Im not out to bash the R32 but its annoying these people just coming in here to bash a car they know nothing about. ill be sure to tell you what the Mk6 is like when I take delivery 6-7weeks now.

Not aware of many common faults at all, having been on r32oc for a while and owning one i have no idea what you are on about?
Not sure how any turbo car is less hassle than an N/A, regardless of CC's. My engine with forged internals is bullet proof and will take more than 500bhp with out hassle, something a GTI (mk6 included) will not do (so it is not more tunable, just cheaper to tune) I get 30mpg without much issue, hardly poor for a fast 4wd hatchback and not that much off the GTI. For these reasons the mk6 is a downgrade in nearly every way for me (its brakes are not as good as the R32's either) and is merely a step sideways for any mk5 gti owners.
Its practically a facelift mk5 which means very few people will be buying one (with their own money at least) as it offers nothing new. A brake upgrade, proper LSD (not a fake one) and a remap will see off a mk6 with enough money left over to pay off a chunk of the mortgage and go on holiday

Oh and if you read the title it says mk5 owners, of which i am one, so im not in the wrong thread

Its your interpretation of the word in this context, not the literal meaning. For me it would not be upgrading as i define an 'upgrade' as a step up in some way, which the mk6 is not.

Also it should read as this

"The term upgrade refers to the replacement of a product with a newer or improved version of that same product"

Well it is a new version of the same product and if you want to include improved too then it is faster over a like for like version, it does have better mpg and it is greener and it is cheaper to tax and the list goes on and on and on.

I give up.

I've gotta agree here, my MKV R32 never missed a beat so not really sure about the 'many faults' the car has  I did seriously consider putting £10K back in my pocket & buy a run out 32 instead of the new GTI, but my future plan is to get the next Golf R in whatever form it comes out in so decided I'd go with the GTI for now.

Each to their own I suppose

I'm going to have to let this go here, winning seems to be important for you, just as it seems having a faster car is too as I said like for like without you getting a grasp of that basic statement. You win.

Kev I apologise, if you had explained in the beginning that everytime you called the Mk6 an upgrade you were not referring to the literal meaning of the word that the rest of the world use but instead the meaning you created in your head, then there would have been no problems at all!

You have made me go to the effort of looking up several defintions for this word online and EVERY one of them includes enhanced, better, superior etc in its definition.

Yes it is newer, yes it is the most modern golf, but this does not make it an upgrade! If you insist on continuing your hopeless argument please tell me where you found your meaning for the word, and that does not mean editing a definition to suit yourself!

Right, you MK6 boys are really getting the wrong end of the stick

I have no issues with the MK6, I like it, I think its a really nice car and Id rather have a tubby over the V6 (due to mileage, which is why I bought a GTI and tuned it up rather than buying an R32). But for the considerable extra cost of having to purchase the MK6 there isnt really that much in it over the MK5 which is why I dont think many MK5 people will be looking to upgrade to it as its just not worth it. Looks are VERY similar, engine is VERY VERY similar, interior again VERY similar. Unless money is no object it just make sense to me to chop in the MK5 and have to fork out £12 on top to get it. Coming from any other MK of Golf is a different story.

Spot on, my thoughts exactly....  Well apart from the rocco and the S3
