ECU tune for Mk2 Golf GTI
« on: 08 June 2009, 10:33 »
I've just put my Mk2 GTI back on the road. Its had a fair amount of work done from electrics to general age work.

I have had a reconditioned engine put in. Now though the engine is running well but on idle there is a little bumpiness/misfiring from the engine.

This seems to me that the car is not tuned and is firing ever so slightly off. I'm thinking that as the engine is a different one to before, the ECU would be setup differently to the previous engine.

Do I need to get a full dyno ECU remap or can I have a simple 'ECU reset' sort of thing to get the car running smoothly.

Anybody know any places to get the work done in London or surrounding area?

What year is it as only the later car can be remapped.

Has the ignition timing been setup properly?
Set it all up as per rubjonnys tuning guide and see if that helps.
Failing that check all your vacuum lines and air intake pipes and make sure there is no unmetered air getting into the system.
I had the smallest split on one of my pipes and it made my idle hunt really badly. Bit of tape over the split and now its spot on, just need to replace the pipe now

as above. Sounds like your dizzy advance, idle screw and co need fiddling with.

You dont really get ecu 'remaps' as such with mk2's, as the ecu doesnt really do alot!
