still bloody whirring

hmmm i replaced wishbones both sides, rear and front engine mount both wheel bearings, both inner and outer cv joints and boots, new rack and my car still whirrs and vibrates when i move the steering wheel to the left or to the right.  OMG what is up with my car? it's doing my head in

Its not the gearbox is it?  Does it get worse in certain gears? Something up with the final drive?  I've had similar symptoms in a mk1 but these kinda things are really annoying and its always usually the last blooming thing you check or replace,  for me it was the box that died in the end.  Don't listen to me though, just suggesting something to check.  Good luck mate, let us know what you find.

hmmm i hope its not the gearbox, i dont think so though because it hasn't been rough in any gearchanges and the noise seems to build with acceleration its like a whir...........................whir..............whir........whir...whir.whir.whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
as i start to accelerate

Do you have PAS? Does the noise happen when turning the wheel while stationary? If yes, could be the pump.

If no, excess play in ball joints?

hmmm i dont have power steering and I just replaced the balljoints when i did the wishbones, im stumped.  I think its a trip down to my vw garage where you have to wait about 3 weeks to get an appointment :(

I would of said gearbox as a mate had this with his.

Dip the clutch to see if the noise goes away when moving.

couldn't be the alternator could it? does the whirring increase with engine speed?

the noise does increase with engine speed but does not happen when stationary so i guess that kind of rules out the alternator, noise is also still there when i dip the clutch.  Took mit to an inndependant garage today and they will have a look on thursday.  The guy reckons its definitely a bearing and that it could be a gearbox bearing.  I'm baffled but i will let you  know what it is as soon as i find out.  Thanks for help
