cigarette lighter socket
« on: 05 June 2009, 22:06 »
Right guys...i might go back to jap crap unless this business of issues on a younger german car can be sorted :lipsrsealed:

After the cambelt was sorted, my coolant leak sorted, i now have what i think are probs with the cigarette lighter socket.  The socket will heat the lighter thing fine, but will not power any 12v chargers such as mobiles, iPod's, bluetooth headsets.  Is this the norm, or is something a miss??  It makes no sense...

Hmm, mine charges my Tomtom and powers my tyre inflator pump when the ignition is on...

Stab in the dark that worked for me: did you check the fuses on the drivers side? I had the same problem and turned out one of the fuses had went.
Not low enough mk5
Not on the road enough mk3

which one then fella??? Its seems unlikely as the cigarette lighter still heats up...seems to just lack enough oomph to charge anything tho :undecided:

What sort of charger are you using chap? Are you using some sort of universal cig lighter charger for all your peripherals? If sou, could be that that's dodgy..

I would suspect the lead (if you like to wrap it round in a tight loop) or the plastic bit which plugs in (internal wire may have come off). I have a cup that keeps my morning brew warm! anyway that has a fuse in which i found out when i had a cold drink the other day

^^nope all new wires and were tested sat outside the shop...didnt pay for em cos they wouldnt work...seems like the universal one is the only that gets a connection-barely and its intermittent, but all the oem phone chargers dont, inc my old nokia which is fine in the mk4
